Ya, I know. It’s been quite sometime since I posted out here. Like I had mentioned in my previous post, the race against time has begun, and it’s on. The past couple of days have been very very very hectic. Did lots of shopping and shopping and shopping. The checklist is almost clear, except for a couple of items, which are pending.
I also have to setup my computer, and make my parents computer literates in a couple of days, and the lessons have already begun :)… teaching them some basics… so that they can use skype, yahoo and gtalk so that they can communicate with me. And its not a easy task!
I also have to move/copy the data I need to carry along with me. What I am planning on doing is, taking my 160GB hard disk along with me with all the required data in it. I already have an IDE to USB converter and an external HDD case. So, I just need to plugin the hard disk to USB to use it! I felt that this would be a better option then carrying lots of CDs and DVDs. What say? I hope that carrying HDD in luggage is not a problem (didn’t have any problems when my wife bought the HDD from US!).
In the mean while, I hosted a couple of parties. One for the project team and the other for some friends and colleagues. The project party was at Kadal (at Nalapad residency). The food quality and service at Kadal was bad. I did not enjoy it. It was bad. Repented for hosting the party at Kadal. :( But the next party was fun. Hosted it at Cherry Square today. The food too was good, and it was fun! Enjoyed it.
The other aspect is travel papers and documentation…. and that’s almost done, but need to have a final look at it. …. But lots of small small jobs still pending.
Wish me luck! :)

Ok.. some updates on the work front. After working for around 5 months on Microsoft Content Management Server 2002, I would be moving to a different project shortly. The project is something called Process Information Management System, which is used to monitor the various equipment used at a manufacturing site. So, again something new! I would be working on software/framework provided by OSI software, and also using VB and VB.net quite a lot. Also, I would probably have to be at our client location by the end of this month. So, lots of stuff happening.
So, for the past couple of days, I am kind of transitioning out of one project, and moving into another. Things are going on smoothly, but very hectic, and its keeping me quit busy.

The last week was pretty hectic. Spent most of the time at office in meetings and meetings and meetings.
But the best part about the previous week was, I was able to talk to many of my old college friends! Got a array of calls from friends all a sudden! Also met a friend of mine who had come down from US on vacation. Also, spoke to couple classmates over messengers/chat.
Its really great and nice to talk to old friends…discussing various ‘happenings’ and getting updates about other friends!! :) …….like….”This guy is now doing this…and that….” etc :). Fun!

So, one more year comes to an end. And as always, it seems like this year tooo passed like a snap! That’s always the case. Time is relative! What say?
Well, for me, year 2005 has been full of ups and downs. So-So kinds. The major change for me this year was change in work. I.e., I moved from the education and research (e&r) department in our company to projects. And life in projects had been great so far. And in this short duration (in projects), I have learnt some new games. Both technical and non-technical! …. and the learning process is on. My earlier work in e&r is helping me a lot in projects. I feel that everyone in projects should be in teaching field (academia) for some short duration of time (at least 6 months!). It really helps.
On the technology front, the major change this year has been the web. Thanks to Firefox, I spend most of my time on the web-browser now. In other words, the web-browser has been my most used software.
On personal front, I have learnt a hard reality. I.e, not to bank on people who you think will be there for you. An the end of the day, every one is up to save their own ass (by whatever means possible)! In short, don’t expect, and be ready to face the worst. At the same time, I am happy about the fact that I have made lot of new friends and met some wonderful people this year. Both offline and online, and this blog has also been a key factor to that! On an average, as of now, I have around 70+ return visitors per day. Which I feel is pretty good.
So, this would my last post …. for the year 2005! Wishing all of you a very happy and prosperous new year!

Yes, yet another weekend almost coming to an end. But this weekend was kind of a major relief. As in, really relaxed. The previous week was very hectic.
At office, quite a lot of things are happening. Synergy - the annual sports event of mInfosys kicked off last week. In this event, people from the entire development center are divided randomly into different groups. Each group has a color associated with them. So, its a battle of colors. The four colors chosen this time are Black, Blue, Green and Red. This year, I am in the Black team.
This is my 4th synergy at mInfosys. I was in the Red team the first time, and our team was named Red Indians. The second time, I was in the Black team, and our team was known as Black Panthers. The third time, I was in the Blue team, and we were known as Kool Blues. This time, i am again in the Black team and we have named ourselves as Black Hawks. But this time around due to my hectic project schedule, I am unable to actively participate in the events. But its fun. Oh yes, one more thing, the team that I belonged to has never ever won the synergy cup so far!!! nor has it come last :) (read - optimism!!! hehehe)
Work wise, some challenging assignments are coming up. So far, it has been a good experience being in delivery (i.e., projects). Have learnt quite a lot in the last 6 months. Both in terms of processes, quality related stuff and as well as technology.
One of the new assignment is a migration project from one cool technology to another happening technology. The good thing is, in the process, we get to know 2 cool technologies at once and leverage on that knowledge in future. For, the more curious techie guys (and gals) out there, the technologies involved are eRoom, which is web-based document management system (or more of a collaboration tool) from a company called Documentum (think EMC corp) and the other is Windows Sharepoint Services 2003 from Microsoft. We would be moving stuff from from eRoom to Sharepoint.
So after the hectic week, the weekend was a welcome break. Slept for most of the day on Saturday. Brought two movies home. Paheli and James. My mother and my wify wanted to see Paheli, but I didn’t want to see it. Had heard from friends that the story didn’t make sense and is quite boring. And it turned out to be true.
Me saw James. I knew that this too wasn’t a great movie and it turned out to be true as well. Typical Hindi movie. Dishum dishum stuff. Our Hero, (Mohit Ahlawat) cleans out all the bad guys (even the deadliest ones) with just bare hands and does not even get hurt. Only once towards the end, he gets injured slightly, but even after that fights as if nothing happened!. Totally unrealistic and stupid. The heroine (Nisha Kothari) has quite a lot of oomph and nothing more. No other option. Ya. Better watch Nisha than Rani. LoL.
My wife’s US trip is still kind of getting delayed. If everything goes fine, she might have to fly this week. So, that’s all the update for now. Getting ready for another hectic and challenging week ahead.

The last couple of days have been very hectic. Kind of having a very busy schedule at office. Lot of work has come in. The last week of October, and the first week of November were relatively free, since it was a vacation season kind in India, with lot of festivals etc. Now, all that work that had piled up has come in, kind of with interest! So, now it back to some serious business. But its good, and I think, one should be always busy and occupied.
Its the annual appraisal time in our company and lot of buzz about it around. The entire appraisal exercise goes for around 1.5 months to around 2 months org wide. Its a major and important activity, now that performance is the key!
In other news, my wife’s was supposed to travel to the US in the first week of November, but her trip got postponed couple of times, and now she is finally travelling on Saturday (later today) (See update below!). So all the packing etc is done. She would be reaching Houston on Sunday (afternoon). Things should go on smoother this time around.
Update: Its postponed again at the last moment. Again. :)

Somehow the weekends seem to be too short!. Again a relaxed weekend. Got up extra late on Saturday. Everything was delayed ;) ..from breakfast to lunch. i.e., breakfast was at 12 noon and lunch at 4 pm :)
Evening, we had invited my colleagues from my old department home. Was a small get-together at our house. We went out for dinner to ‘The Village’. Had a nice time in general.
Sunday again turned out to be a lazy day. Read lots of pending posts and could clear almost all important unread posts on bloglines.
Hectic week ahead. Good thing is, there is a holiday midway for Ganesha Chaturthi on Wednesday.
Back to work now!

This week seems to be kind of hectic. Lot of things going on parallel! So, kind of multi processing in office. Project work is kind of slowly coming in. Not major work as such. But i am kind of involved in lot of extra-or… may be you can call it secondary work, which has kind of kept me busy for the past few days. Should be ok in the next couple of days.
My news aggregator clearly shows how occupied i am :) Around 800 posts unread. Normally it will be in the range of 10 to 30!

The weekend got over pretty soon. Don’t know why the weekends get over sooo soon !!! (don’t you think so??) ….. Slept a lot……….aaaaaaah…. got up late on both the days. The weather is pretty good now in Mangalore. Its pretty cold in the mornings (I mean, cold by Mangalore standards), and I don’t feel like getting up at all in the mornings:). So, made best use of the opportunity over the weekend.
Was at home both the days.. Played a game called Air Xonix over the weekend. Simple Xonix clone, but a 3D one. Pretty addictive. Sunday evening it wasn’t raining, so we decided to go to the beach. Had a nice time.
Oh yes, the people who hacked my site did come back to see what’s up!!…… They did try to access the files that they had uploaded (back door) , but mostly got a 404 file not found.
Back to office today. Catching up with the new stuff !

Now I am kind of allocated to a project. The project would be on Microsoft technologies. ASP.net and Microsoft Content Management Server. That would add something new to my resume!. KT sessions are on, and the next few days should be pretty interesting.
