Widescreen LCD Monitor - V7 Series

Well, laptops are good to have, but after using them for over an year now, realized that laptops are bad for my eyes. Not if you use it on a proper desk, but the thing with laptop is, its too easy & convenient to use it when you are on the bed, and some how, in my case, I ended up placing the laptop too close to my eyes.

Well, I have been wearing eye glasses for the past 2.5 yrs now, and recently did a routine eye test. Obviously, my power had slightly increased and I think it can be attributed to the improper use of laptops!

So, this week, bought myself a 22″ widescreen LCD monitor (V7 Series). I have never heard about this name before, but found it via a deal site on staples.com. It had very good reviews, and it was well priced. Got it for around $238 (including taxes+shipping).

V7 Series 22

Its a pretty decent monitor, has regular VGA input, built-in stereo speakers, dvi inputs (no cables though - you need to buy them). Love it so far!…….No problems what so ever. See Updates below…

Logitech Cordless Navigator Duo

Also got Logitech Cordless Navigator Duo. So, now I have a full fledged ergonomic workplace at home.

Hopefully, that should help my eyes and my body! :)

Update 1 (9-Nov, 9 AM CST): After using the monitor for a few days, noticed that there was a low hissing noise, which used to start and stop randomly. Asked staples for an exchange - to which they readily agreed. Waiting for a replacement unit today. Will update how the new unit performs.

Update 2 (9-Nov, 7 PM CST): Staples folks screwed up. They are telling me that they have some logistic issues, and the monitor that I was supposed to get is missing from their warehouse. So, its only possible for them to deliver on Monday (12-Nov). Will update once I get the replacement unit!

Update 3 (14-Nov, 8 PM CST): Staples delivered the monitor on Monday (12-Nov), and also offered a $35 coupon to compensate me for the trouble. Haven’t yet got the coupons, but i think they should be here in a few days. The replacement monitor is OK so far!. No hissing noise for 2 days now. Will have to keep an watch for few days. Will update in a weeks time.

Wart problem ? try this home remedy!!!

Well, first of all, I am not a doctor or anything like that! So, try this at your own risk! :)… But this is something that has worked for me like magic, and has worked for thousands of other people. So I thought of sharing it will all of you!

Well, I had a very small wart on one of my fingers on the left hand. Warts are pretty common and are caused by a virus known as human papillomavirus. They normally appear on the foot, but can appear anywhere on the body. They are not very painful or very harmful etc, but definitely not something that you would like to have on your skin! And……… most of the time, its pretty hard to get rid of them! :)

Now, coming back to my small wart, it had been on my finger for over 2 years growing very slowly - And I tried lots of medications to get rid of it - including tablets, over the counter Salicylic acid and even the Duct tape occlusion therapy!. But nothing seemed to work. All of them just gave temporary relief but no matter what I did, the wart would come back exactly at the same spot within a month or so!

Finally - did some Googling and came across this home remedy - Very simple, Very cheap, and it worked like miracle. Its almost 4 months now, and no signs of the wart that had troubled me for over 2+ years!

So, What is this miracle home remedy? - Well, its Apple Cider Vinegar (ACV).

Where is it available? Most food stores should have it in the vinegar section. I found it at walmart.

How much does it cost? : Well, here in the US a big bottle costs around $2.00. Yes. Thats TWO dollars only!

How to use it?:

  1. Get the Apple Cider Vinegar bottle.
  2. Have a very small cotton ball - may be half the size of a shirt button (this depends on how big your wart is!).
  3. Soak the cotton ball in Apple Cider Vinegar.
  4. Place it over the wart.
  5. Put and band-aid over it - so that the cotton is in place.
  6. It might start to itch after sometime and might be slightly pain. But thats normal. If the pain is unbearable, remove the band-aid, and clean with fresh water.
  7. Repeat the above steps for 5 to 6 nights.

For me, since the wart was very small, it just took around 3 nights to work, and eventually, the wart just turned to dark brown and then finally disappeared!!

Lots of other people have reported success with this method!

Do comment below if this home remedy worked for you!

  • PS 1: This method is not recommended for genital warts. Consult your doctor.
  • PS 2: Try this on your own! I am just sharing this info since it has helped me!!! I am not responsible for whatever the consequences are!!! :)

Whats wrong with the Internet?

Well, for the past two three days lots of things are not in place. First of all, my Bloglines aggregator is behaving like a total bitch. For some damn reason, Bloglines is not updating some of my feeds, which is driving me nuts.

Yesterday, Yahoo! mail, messenger and many of other yahoo services were down

Orkut has gone bonkers for the past couple of days. It was down for maintenance for quite a lot of time. Also,.. the “Bad server, No doughnut” error is back!

There were reports that even Google/Gmail services was behaving erratically for some users.

And in the next day or two, the ’stupid’ net-neutrality bill would be passed. Sad news for the entire Internet community. Is this the beginning of, the End of Internet ?…

BTW, any alternative for a good web-based news aggregator ?
I tried the web-based newsgator - did not like it. I guess I am too addicted to the bloglines style of display.
Tried Yahoo! Mail (beta) RSS feed reader feature - did not like it either - Navigation is not that great. No import/export features yet.
Google reader - Tried my best to use it. But found it too user-unfriendly. This is one product from Google which I kind of hate now. Its such a pain.

The best alternative for Bloglines so far has been the “Sage” extension for Firefox. It works cool. But the only problem is, it does not aggregate & its not web-based. i.e, It just displays the most recent feed items that are available. So, I would miss quite a lot of news items. :(

Any better alternatives ? I would prefer something web-based so that I can access the feeds from anywhere using a browser (preferably Firefox!)

Update (10.25 PM) : Got a reply from the Bloglines customer service department for the feedback that I had given about the above problem. They are saying that they are aware of the problem, and are looking into it. I checked my Bloglines feed now, and it seems to be back to normal now!
