Yahoo! Mail Beta - I got it!

Yahoo! Mail Beta

Thanks to digg.com and this post at the Google OS blog, my Yahoo! Mail account is now Ajax enabled! And…it looks cool!

Yet to fully test it, but looks outlook-ish.. The performance is pretty decent. Mails load up pretty fast. Right clicking on a mail gives you some pretty cool options including mark mail as unread/read!. Wow. That’s useful!…..

All set to explore it. Do try out the procedure mentioned in the link about to convert your Yahoo! mail to the brand new Ajax based Yahoo! mail (beta).

Get 2 GB Hotmail!

Still stuck with 2MB or 250MB hotmail mailbox ? Follow these three simple steps in IE… and enjoy!

Step 1: Log into your hotmail account using Internet Explorer - Does not work if you try to activate this using Firefox. Also make sure your address in your hotmail account is United States.

Step 2: Click on this link
(better copy the link given above and paste it into the window in which you have your hotmail account opened!)

Step 3: Click Join Mail Beta

Now your hotmail account is upgraded to Live Mail with 2GB of storage!

This procedure worked fine for me when I tried it out a couple of mins back.

Not sure how long it would last!

Yahoo Mail - Advance Search Bug ?

Well, I discovered this problem a month back. Reported it to yahoo customer care almost immediately. (could only find them after searching for some 15 mins). No response from customer care to date. So, let me put it up here.

Ok. This one is a minor bug, but is a major inconvenience. Not sure if this is specific to me only or to all. I have tested on Firefox browser only. Would be great if anyone can confirm this.

The Bug :
The problem is in the Advance Search feature, when you want to search only in specific folder. The search result returns mails from all folders, even when you have asked it to fetch results *only* from a specific folder.

Here is a screen shot :
Yahoo advance search bug
Advance Search Results - Click to zoom in. (opens up in a new window)

The above shows the results of a advance search I made with the following parameters :
“Search All Unread mails in the BlogComments folder”

Dissecting the above screen shot
Point 1 : Unread mails only (folder selected BlogComments)
Point 2 : BlogComments folder has 8 unread mails only
Point 3 : 236 results returned!!!
Point 4 : Shows results from all folders.

Clearly, someone has not done testing as per the test plans! May be they thought it was too trivial to test it!

or

Have I goofed up somewhere?

How to increase hotmail from 2MB to 250MB

Updated 3: Check this update : Upgrade your hotmail account to 2GB! http://www.arjunprabhu.com/blog/archives/2006/01/03/get-2-gb-hotmail/

Update 2: The method given below still works! :) enjoy.

Update 1: Some folks have reported that this method no longer works. But do give it a try. Please report if you were successful by entering your comments below!

Well, if you are still using hotmail, and your mailbox size is still 2MB and you want to make it bigger, then you have come to the right place!. Actually, seeing the logs, i found that many people came to my site search for this info. So, here it is!. I have personally done this on both my hotmail accounts (so that more spam mails can be stored ;) ) a couple of months back, and it works perfectly fine. But as mentioned below, its recommended to back up your mails before you try this procedure. Try at your own risk! :)

Source: Net, Mailing lists etc..

Advice: Although this method doesn’t involve any loss of emails or contacts, its recommended to back them up before you do this process. You could setup your hotmail account in Outlook Express or any other email client.

Steps:

  • Login ur hotmail account and go to options.
  • Go to “Personal”
  • Click “My Profile”
  • Change Country to “United States”
  • Wait for browser to load United States settings.
  • Change the state to any American States. For example “Florida” and zip code “33332″
  • Click “update”
  • Click “Continue”
  • Go to “Language” and make sure its “English”
  • Paste this link in the same browser.
    http://by17fd.bay17.hotmail.msn.com/cgi-bin/Accountclose
  • Wait until the Screen says you’re Hotmail is Closed and ready to be deleted.
  • Click “Close Account”.
  • Go back to login page and re-login to ur hotmail account..!!
  • Your account size will now increase to 25 MB, which a month later becomes 250 mb.

Good Luck..!!
