Nearing Parenthood and other updates!

Well, its been a long time since I wrote here. Its the first post of 2008!!! Hope all of you had a great new year.

Well, all is good at our end. Baby is due pretty soon, and both me and Chitra are geared up for the big event! The official due date is 21-Feb-2008, but anything + or – 2 weeks is considered as a ‘term’ baby.

It has been kind of hectic the past month or so… shopping for baby stuff, childbirth classes, baby shower(s) :) …. and so on. Well, the child-birth classes were pretty informative and helpful. Things like these are unheard of in India. In a way its good, and in some ways, its bad – as-in they give too much of information! Well, shopping for baby stuff is another story …. All in all, its been hectic and fun so far :)

Life would go for a spin for sure, pretty soon – for the good!!

Well, I also realized that I am not really finding time to play with the Wii that I bought a few months back.

So, decided to put it up for sale on eBay. Its a amazing game system, but I don’t really see myself sitting and playing given where I am in my life! :). So, if you are interested, bid for it! BTW, its still hard to find Wii’s here in the US! This thing still has very high demand!

Also, up for grabs on eBay is my Canon EF-S 18-55mm f/3.5-5.6 USM Lens! I would be upgrading to a new lens pretty soon (Canon EF 28-135mm f/3.5-5.6 IS USM)

On the work front, I am still working for the same project that I was in. The work load is decent. Not too bad.

Well, the next couple of months would be exciting! :) More updates as and when I get time!

Hello Houston

Finally said bye bye to Kingsport yesterday. There are somethings that you never forget in your life. And my stay at Kingsport is one among them. It was my first city in the US, calm and peaceful with very scenic surroundings.

I also got a chance to interact with some really great bunch of people, both at work and otherwise. They were always ready to help, very friendly and full of fun!

My next assignment starts on Monday i.e, 21st of August at Houston for our client (BP). I would be back working on web-based stuff, which I love!. For the last 6 months, I was in more of and VB6 kind of environment. It was good. Anything to do with computers/Internet is fun for me :).

But, above all, now I get to stay with my wife. So, now we can finally get rid of long Skype/gTalk calls.

On the work front, I am all set for the next challenge!

Moving soon :)

After staying away for more than 8 months now, I would be finally staying with my dear wife!. If all goes well, I would be relocating to Houston soon. My assignment here in Kingsport would end on the 18th of August.

It has been a long wait, and both of us have been looking forward for this to happen since long. Now that its in sight, both of us are really happy and excited about it. Hope all goes well as planned.

Well, that also means that the past couple of days have been very hectic. One of my friends/colleague would be replacing me at work here at Kingsport. Its his first visit to the US too. So, Its kind of a deja-vu feeling for me, when it comes to setting him up, both at work and otherwise. Around seven months back I was in his place……. Anyway, the show goes on!

So, this also explains the why my blogging activity has come down in the past couple of days. :D Should be back to normal in a couple of weeks from now. i.e., once I settle down at Houston.

Natural Tunnel State Park

Time flies by! And already, the long awaited 4 day weekend is all over, and I have worked for 2 days after the weekend!.

Well, as mentioned in the previous post, here are some snaps of the Natural Tunnel State park. We visited this place on one of the days during the 4 day weekend. This place is actually in the state of Virginia and is around 20 miles from Kingsport.

The main attraction of this place is a 865 feet Natural Tunnel under a huge mountain. There are lot of trails too in the state park.

Here are the snaps:

On Monday (July 3rd) we went on a drive to the Smoky Mountains area. The entire area is quite scenic .. very beautiful.!!…… But it was a short trip and we spent quit a lot of time in traffice in the pegion forge area, which is in the foothills of smokies. I would definitely like to go to the smokies in the future .. stay at some cabin, go on treks etc!…

Virginia Beach

Its Memorial day on Monday and a long weekend….. and we are going on a mini vacation :).

Chitra is coming down to Kingsport from Houston for the weekend, and we have planned a trip to the city of Virginia Beach (Google maps link). We would also be visiting the Busch Gardens (theme park) at Williams Burg, VA.

We plan to start today (i.e., Friday) at around 3.30 PM and reach the city of Virginia Beach by night. Its a 7 hrs drive from Kingpsort. Spend Saturday on the beach. On Sunday, we plan to visit the Busch gardens. Monday morning, start back! So, we should be back in Kingsport by Monday evening.

We are a group of 10. So, it should be fun! Will post photographs once I am back!

Finally a car – 1998 Toyota Camry LE

After months of car search, finally found the right car to buy!!

Its a Tan colored 1998 Toyota Camry LE. Came to know about this car from the last Friday. Called up the seller and got the details. Ran a carfax check on the car. It came out clean. We then went to Johnson City to see the car on Friday, did a test ride, and found it pretty neat. Then on Saturday, we took the car to a Auto shop to do a 30 point checkup and found that the Car was in pretty good shape. Closed the deal on Saturday itself.

However, the car needed some attention to its breaks. So, fixed it, and took the delivery today.

Some Specs :
– 1998 Toyota Camry LE
– Automatic
– 4D Sedan

Watauga Lake

Had been to the Watauga lake on Sunday. Its about a hours drive from Kingsport. Its pretty close to Elizabethton. Watauga lake is the highest lake in Tennessee and the third cleanest lake in North America! … and very beautiful too!. This lake was formed due to the construction of a Dam across the Watauga river. The lake is appx 19 miles long with around 106 miles of shoreline!!

Work, weekday, weekend and the car hunt

Its been quite sometime since I wrote here. Yes, you guessed is right. Work. As I had mentioned in one of my previous post, we have a milestone around this week. Most of the work from my end has been done well in advance. Except for a few minor hitches, everything is going on smoothly. But the last couple of days have been kind of hectic. And, the next couple of days would be hectic too.

This weekend was pretty lazy and relaxing. My car-hunt is on. Finding it very difficult to find a decent car. On saturday, we had been to Johnson City (around 15 miles from Kingsport) to see a car. Before going, I had checked with the seller on the condition of the car, the vechicle history etc… The car was supposed to have a little hail damage., and the seller told me that he was the first owner of the car and the car had a clean history.

We did manage to see the car, but could not meet the seller. He wasn’t there!! He had told us that he would be around!! But we did manage to get the VIN number. Came back, did a carfax check on the VIN number only to find that the odometer of the car had been rolled back! No wonder the car had low miles on it! besides, the car has already had 3 owners! So, the hunt continues….

Taxi No 9211
Sunday, saw Taxi No 9211. Timepass movie. Nothing special. Two characters all bent upon screwing each other. No storyline……….nothing. I am just wondering about the fact that there is a page at wikipedia for this movie. LOL!!!

Also saw the award winning movie ‘Crash‘ (Official Site). Was good. Some scences were very touching. Would rate around 8.5 on a scale of 10. Oh. Yes, I subscribed to online.
