Photos from Karkala Karthik Punnav
November 24th, 2005 at 12:53am
Quite a lot of snaps from Karkala Karthi Punnav (Laksha Deepostsava). Like had had mentioned in my previous post, I was in Karkal on Sunday and Monday. Sunday was Talayi Divvo (Talayi – Sacred pond in the vicinity of the temple, Divvo means Diyas). On Monday, there was this symbolic function of Vanabhojana (which literally means, dinner in the forest).
Here is the snaps :
Temple – Lighting – Decoration
The temple as usual was fully illuminated with lights. Here are some night shots of the temple.

Talayi Divvo Pictures
Here are some pics from the Talayi Divvo function. This time around, it was really beautiful. There were lots of firecrackers this time. The entire area was lit up with diyas as you can see in the pictures below :

Snaps from Vanabhojana
The snaps below were shot on Monday during the Vanabhojana celebrations. This place is considered to be equivalent of tirupati. You can read the entire history of this particular function over here.

I am posting this keeping in mind thousands of Karkalites spread across the world (and for some reason could not make it to Karkal for Karthik Punnav). So, I request you to please pass on the URL (http://www.arjunprabhu.com/blog/archives/2005/11/24/
photos-from-karkala-karthik-punnav/) to any Karkalite who would be happy to see the above set of snaps!

Dear Arjun,
I accidently stumbled upon your blog. SOme accidents do happen for the good. I loved the pictures. And reminded me of my visit to Karkala 2 years back for Kartipunnava. That was my first Kartipunnava in the last 30 odd years though I go often there.
Recently I have moved to the Middle East and hence it was special to flavor my hometown sitting here in Abu Dhabi. Thank you.

Hi all,
I did my pre- U in Karkala, Sri Bhuvanenadra college(sorry about the spelling) in 1985-86, before proceeding to Manipal.
I have fond memories of this small town.
My friends and I plan to visit our alma mater in the next few years, and Karkala will be in our itinerary.
cheers.

Dear Ashwini and all,
Shenoy is a very familiar name though I had forgotton where exactly the shop is located. hmm..
We are planning a trip to Karkala on the 31st October 2009, for the Bhuvanendra college golden jubilee celebrations.
I understand that my mathematic teacher Sir Gawda, as we used to call him, who was also our hostel warden, is now a professor and principal of the esteem college. He’s a strict but fair man. I miss him dearly.
Lots of arrangements to make; flights and accommodation in Karkala are main concern. But as I look at the Wikimapia map, there are lots of new hotels beside Swagth and Dwaraka.
Does Swagth still serve its tasty biryani rice..? :)
I’m very excited about the trip, as you can imagine.
