Yahoo Mail - Advance Search Bug ?
July 25th, 2005 at 10:25pm
Well, I discovered this problem a month back. Reported it to yahoo customer care almost immediately. (could only find them after searching for some 15 mins). No response from customer care to date. So, let me put it up here.
Ok. This one is a minor bug, but is a major inconvenience. Not sure if this is specific to me only or to all. I have tested on Firefox browser only. Would be great if anyone can confirm this.
The Bug :
The problem is in the Advance Search feature, when you want to search only in specific folder. The search result returns mails from all folders, even when you have asked it to fetch results *only* from a specific folder.
Here is a screen shot :

Advance Search Results - Click to zoom in. (opens up in a new window)
The above shows the results of a advance search I made with the following parameters :
“Search All Unread mails in the BlogComments folder”
Dissecting the above screen shot
Point 1 : Unread mails only (folder selected BlogComments)
Point 2 : BlogComments folder has 8 unread mails only
Point 3 : 236 results returned!!!
Point 4 : Shows results from all folders.
Clearly, someone has not done testing as per the test plans! May be they thought it was too trivial to test it!
or
Have I goofed up somewhere?

I tested this and also saw the problem. I emailed Yahoo as well. Maybe they will listen to me since I have a paid account. They might not bother fixing it though since they are rewriting the mail interface.

Morac : Hope so..
I guess the new interface is AJAX based…. any info on that ?

I believe the new interface is AJAX based (developed by Oddpost). I know it’s in beta testing and I’ve seen images of it, but I don’t have access to it yet. The only other info I’ve seen is the press releases:

Just a FYI, but I got a response from Yahoo. It was a pretty generic “we’re looking into the problem, sorry for any inconveniences” response with recommendations to upgrade to the latest version of Internet Explorer, Netscape or Firefox.
I’ve found in the past that it can take a long time to get something fixed. An error with me not being able to save to my Yahoo Briefcase took around 4 or 5 months to fix.

Nikil : Contact Yahoo folks. This probably is the wrong place to ask for help. Try contacting yahoo support.

@Huvaji:
The mail that you got is MOSTLY a scam mail.
Its not true as far as I see it.
Don’t reply to such emails - you might get into trouble!
