CTY, Office, House, DVD writer - Updates
May 3rd, 2005 at 06:29pm
Work is on at a normal pace in office. The Catch Them Young program (CTY) is going on, and the kids are learning ‘C’ programming language. Infact, today they are done with ‘C’ and started off with HTML. They also had a session on Quality, and web architecture.
I am associated with this program from the past 2 to 3 yrs, and I can see a lot of change in the kids!. The kids now are much more smarter then they were before. Almost the entire group is computer enabled..i would say. I mean, most of them would have used a computer before attending this program, compared to the students who attended this program 2-3 yrs ago. It was totally new to them. Now, almost everyone has already worked on MS office and are comfortable with it. Some already have e-mail accounts too!
Also, one more thing that i noticed was, the kids have become more impatient!. They just want instant solutions. Less of hard work. .. Not sure how the kids of the future will be!
Anyway, this years program goes up to 6th of May.
Other news at office… today we had the compensation review presentation for the year 2005-2006. Good. Don’t know how exactly my salary would be vary, but things look good!. I will have to wait till May 6th to get the exact numbers. My biggest wish to move into projects seems to be closer to reality. If everything goes as planned, i will be moving into projects soon. Will post about it once that happens. But its on cards. Wish me luck :)
On home/family fronts, my cousin sisters marriage is approaching. Its on 16th May. So, will be on leave that day. And Karkal car festival is also close. i.e., 13th May. That is one religious function that i wouldn’t want to miss out on!! I am kind of very religious when it comes to Lord Venkataramana of Karkala.
At home, my Sony DVD writer which I bought a couple of months back is screwed up already. I haven’t used it soo much!! Only max 15 to 20 CD, and around 4 DVDs. The worst part is, it writes the data without giving any errors. And it reads the data too without reporting any errors. But, then data is corrupted. Eg: If I write a zip file onto a DVD or CD, it writes fine. I can read the zip file back to the hard disk., but when i try to extract the zip file, i get a CRC error. Horrible, and dangerous. I have given it back to the vendor, and he is currently having a look at it. I should be getting a replacement shortly.
And, yes, I have made some modification to this site. You might have noticed it if you are a regular visitor. You can now see the links above : “Archives“, “About“, “Contact“. I have also updated my Resume.

Regarding Kids, Dont try to make each one of them Computera swami.. things are not a click away, atleast i as a mechanical engineer can suggest you that…

:) dont worry. we are not going to do that. The idea behind CTY program is to make the kids computers aware(things like programming, what happens within…etc).
Anyway, in future, no matter which branch of engineering you choose, you will end up using computers!.
Its just giving them the boost!

yeh i dont differ on that (Anyway, in future, no matter which branch of engineering you choose, you will end up using computers!.) But the matter is we are less concerned about manufaturing, production, and agriculture three things, which are important for long term health of any big economy like india. specially where service sector is gaining importance without the proper emergence of these three sectors.
