ICICI Bank – A bad experience for many

I had only verbally heard about the bad experiences people are having with ICICI Bank, but this just proves it!

I have a account with ICICI bank because its our salary account, and we are kind of forced to use ICICI Bank. And since we have a salary account, we get a decent service. But yes, the credit card department, and the call centre sucks big time. That’s my personal experience.
They put you on hold for 5 to 10 mins. (just imagine listening to the same junk music/tone/adverts continuously), and then there is no guarantee that you will get to speak to someone or your problem would be solved. Infact, today I was put on hold for around 7 mins, and after that the call as abruptly disconnected!. Next time I call the call center, I get to speak to a totally new person, and start from scrap describing the problem. The people at the call center just promise to do things, and nothing actually happens. If it happens, then you are really your luck.

My advice to all – Avoid ICICI as far as possible. Many people predict that the bank would collapse in a few years from now. Have a account with any nationalized bank.
Personally, I have an account with SBI and keep a minimum amount in ICICI.

Dont ever take home loans from ICICI. They will lure you with lower interest rates and with in one year they will increase the rates by a minimum of 6%. For eg i have taken loan for 7.25% and in an year my rate reached at 13%. The Most frustrating part is that WHEN THE RATES ARE COMING DOWN, THESE IDIOTS NEVER BOTHER DECREASE THE RATES. THEY ARE THE NUMBER ONE FRAUDS. GET AWAY FROM THIS BANK.

With banks like ICICI unilaterally increasing rates often without any notice the costs often exceed the agreed to cost at the time of taking a loan.
A smart way to get out and ..
…stay out of high interest rates of banks is by using NBFC and private institutions which offer lower rates of 6.5% -7.5%.
I changed from ICICI bank ripoff rate of 12.5% to 7.5% from private finance company.

My relative had an account with ICICI and wanted to close it after we came to know that another relative had a problem with ICICI as the bank records showed a few debit cards issued for his account when he only had one single debit card. The bank would not respond to his requests for clarification. And he was getting charged for annual fee for these non-existent cards.
So my relative decided to close their ICICI account because this story along with many many other stories were eenough to prove the ICICI as the villian.
I contacted the bank several times with a request to them to let us know the account closing procedure because each time their bank staff would give different information.
But the arrogant ICICI never responded to requests for information on procedure to close the account.
Primarily once you open an account with ICICI they make you a slave. Nothing is given in writing and everything is discussed only verbally so that the manipulative bank can change it based on their convenience.
Finally the account was closed after great difficulty a long time consuming procedure and costs incurred because each time the staff retracted from the procedure they had verbally informed.
But my relative was hell bent to get out of this slave trap and so he left all other work and only gave total priority of getting out of the clutches of the rogue ICICI by closing the Savings Account.
It took them a lot of effort but they have promised themselves to stay away from the ICICI because if a mere closure of a Savings Account was such a big harrasment then what would be the plight of a person who has taken a loan from this bank or if false debit cards were issued for their account without their knowledge and then the same were misused.
Please think twice before opening an account with ICICI or taking a loan from them, you will be virtual slaves and the bank may even take your life to recover hatever amount they claim against you.

Dear All,
I have been a bank customer of ICICI for nearly 10 years now. And believe me this bank is no good. Their policies are pathetic. The nodal office is nothing but a sham. This person Ms. Sayeed is a fake. Reasons for not banking with ICICI:
1. Their Banking Products are not customer friendly.
2. There are so many hidden charges that you cannot believe.
3. Their relationship managers(most of them) are powerless bunch of jokers.
4. In last one year so many corporates have closeed their account, Must be the highest for any bank in India.
5. Public Image and perception about this bank is so poor. No big bank has been through so many crisis is last 10 years. Who can forget Lines snaking outside their ATM’s to take out their savings.
6. If you happen to take a home loan from them, they will lure you with attractive waivers and later on will increase interest rate the first among banks and will reduce the interest rate the last.
7. Most of their ATM are in rundown condition. Thanks to RBI we can now use ATMs of most banks without charge.
8. They charge the most on Forex conversion and rates. I asked the rate from my ICICI bank account relationship manager and he gave me the rate of Rs 67 to the euro. Then I spoke to another bank and they gave me a rate of 66.50. I saved Rs 5000 there in not dealing with ICICI.
9. Never ever one should remit – inward or outward any forex remmittence through ICICI.
10. If you don’t mind paying charges for any thing and everything — then pleasaeeee bank with ICICI . They are waiting for you and your kind.

1 March 2007 I had paid a cheque to ICICI Bank in which I had put the worng month (i.e. July 2007; instead of March 2007). The bank called me and immediately I released a fresh cheque with correct month and the amount was cleared. I had, however, requested the bank to send back the cheque. BUT, ICICI said that they cannot send back any cheque but that I could HOT LIST the cheque. I was told that when a cheque is HOT LISTED it will not be presented. So I agreed and placed a request to HOT LIST the cheque for Rs. 22,000 which was dated July 2007 I wanted the cheque back but I was not given the same / I was forced to HOT LIST the cheque which was not supposed to be presented / When I pushed for this I was told that, it was MYT FAULT for writing the wrong month on the cheque.
2 June 2007 Now in June I get my statement from ICICI basis which I released a cheque of Rs. 40,000 dated July 2007. BUT, to my astonishment I get an sms saying that a cheque of Rs. 22,000 has been received by ICICI with thanks. Now I panic because I’m asking myself that I deposited a cheque of Rs. 40,000 and where is the balance. So I call ICICI and I am made to wait for approx. 35 minutes. Then a phone executive says that they have received a cheque of Rs. 22,000 and not Rs. 40,000. So I tell them that I had paid Rs. 40,000 and then they say that they will call me back. Obviously, they do not and I’m worried now. So I call ICICI again and after another 20+ minutes wait I get to hear that they also have a cheque for Rs. 40,000. Now I have realized that the Rs. 22,000 cheque was the HOT LISTED cheque that they have decided to present. Who’s fault is it that ICIC present a HOT LISTED cheque? Imagine the tension till this gets resolved for me. Where is the balance Rs. 18,000 gone and it was a good 5 – 7 hours before I realized this. Let me remind you that it was me who realized that the HOT LISTED cheque was the one presented by this so called PROFESSIONAL BANK called ICICI
3 March 2008 My credit card balance was Rs. 38 +
4 6th March 2008 Deposited cheque for Rs. 35,000 into drop box. Cheque was dated 9th March 2008.
5 15th March 2008 Confirmation from Vijaya Bank that Rs. 35,000 has been paid to ICICI Bank vide last 5 transactions on debot card
6 15th March 2008 Checked available balance on ICICI card and it showed Rs. 35,000 +. So I filled fuel for Rs. 2000 and drew cash of Rs. 13,000. Now in my mind I should have Rs. 20,000 available balance, right
7 16th March 2008 Went to Little Italy, Indiranagar, BLR with wife, son and an important Client. Bill for Rs. 1400+ declined. Restaurant full of customers and my card was declined 4 times. Each time was a huge embarrassment. I seldom carry cash and neither does my wife. So my wife had to scan for a UTI ATM; found one and drew cash from it. In the meantime the embarrassement continues as my Client offers to pay (He could not wait till my wife returned). He paid and left while I waited. My wife returns with the cash and I just could not allow the episode to continue. So I drove to my Clients house which is in Yellahanka and after a 1 . 5 hour drive managed to return his money. The worst part was that I made 6 calls to the ICICI exec the same day. Waited for an average of 25 minutes before I got to speak to an operator. Each time was a different operator. Each one of them had NO IDEA why after paying Rs. 35,000 did my balance show so low a balance. Now imagine what am I thinking – “ICICI are CHEATS and they’re robbing me only my Rs. 20,000 that I should have as balance. Anyways, I lodged a complaint (SR59644247) with a person by name, RAkesh. He apologized for the error and said that it will take 2 days to rectify. Now in the evening I felt I should just check again. I spoke to a female rep of ICICI after waiting as usual and what she told blew my mind. “Sir, ICICI has paid back Rs. 22,000 to Vijaya Bank because your cheque was post dated as 9th March 2008, while it was deposited on the 6th March 2008. I literally fell off my seat and when I enquired further she said that she needs to check. I wait for 30+ minutes and she returns telling me that, she can take a complaint because she does not know what the error with ICICI is.
8 16th March 2008 I requested to speak to an ICICI manager latest by the following day (i.e. 17th March 2008)
9 17th March 2008 Refer email sent (First email to ICICI Bank with subject reading, “ICICI coming across as cheats”. No one from ICICI called me and I was forced to call myself. No one from ICICI, each time I called, could tell me where my Rs. 20,000 had vanished. Mental torture continues. Imagine the mental torture of not knowing why was ICICI trying to rob me…
10 17th March 2008 Repeated calls but to no avail. TWO Email sent and got no response
11 18th March 2008 Repeated calls but to no avail. ONE Email sent and got no response
12 18th March 2008 Spoke to one BABU of ICICI. He made me wait for 30 minutes and said that he will call back. Obviously, the deligent working ICICI did not call me back Mental torture continues

15 19th March 2008 Spoke to one Ms. Roja who said that the issue is still not sorted out and that I need to wait. ICICI will call me, she said Mental torture continues
16 19th March 2008 Could not bear the thought that ICIC was cheating me and robbing me. I called again the ICICI exec, who said that if I needed to meet an ICICI Manager then I would have to visit the head office on MG Road. I left office and reached ICICI Bank on MG Road after 45 minutes driving time. I waited in line and then was told that I needed to go to Mythri Towers, Bommanahalli. I was given 3 LAN numbers which I called 17 times and not once was the lines answered. Then I managed to locate the place after a drive time of 1 . 50 hours. In the meantime I applied for half day leave as I wanted to sort this one out. I met with Shivank (Collections Manager) AND only then (After waiting for an hour) did he tell me that Rs. 22,000 was taken back by ICICI because of a cheque that did not clear in July 2007. Imagine the shock, anger and frustration… I tore the card into 6 pieces and gave it to Shivank and told him that ICICI can take a LONG and HARD walk because that is the end of my association with ICICI ICICI sleeping since July 2007??? / ICICI decides to simply acquire money without informing the customer???? / Who knows if this is true and if ICICI has really not collected the amount??? My mind tell me that ICICI are cheats, criminals, crooks and robbers… What does your mind tell you???? Rs. 3500 time cost / Rs. 200 fuel cost
17 28th March 2008 Repeated calls to me from ICICI / SMS’es asking for dues of 50K approx. I sent a mail to ICICI Suddenly everyone in ICICI calls for money. Nobody called when I had a problem, right. ICICI works very delligently you see when they need to complete a robery
18 6th April 2008 Another sms and I sent mail to ICICI complaining of harrasement Mental torture begins again
19 8th April 2008 Received email from Shivank telling me to mark mails to customer care and an email id was provided. So I forwarded all emails till then exchanged

21 9th April 2008 Shyam from ICICI (040 – 6606888) calls me and demands for payments. I sent ane mail to ICICI. Shyam tells me that he will speak to ICICI BOSSES and get back. 22 10th April 2008 Got an email from customer care telling me to log my complaint through the http://www.icici.com portal. I did just that No response as usual

55 23rd June 2008 Another collection agent from ICICI, who refused to give me his name calls me. He abuses and is very rude. I have to explain the entire episode to him and he tells me that if I do not oay he will visit my home. I welcome him to my office the next day. He says he will come before 1200 hrs. 144 24th June 2009 I responded to the most STUPID response since the time the issue started with an email challenging the OMBUDSMAN’s decision to judge that ICICI has acted delligently. Tell me everyone reading this, is not this how the worst bank in the world would operate. I told the OMBUDSMAN that now I realize that ICICI is really far far worse I want my compensation and just like ICICI loves to simply charge extras and cheat so will my compensation be increased as time goes by. I want rs. 1,50,000 as compensation as of this moment

As I have been doing since the first communication to ICICI, I have replied by email saying that what ICICI is doing is not right. ICICI has to compensate me and not harrass me. I am being harrased to the point of suicide which if you went through the turn of events you will realize just, why is ICICI is worst bank in the world (According to me) Told ICICI that I will pay but ICICI has to compensate me first…

I suppose if you had filed a case in consumer court, you would have surely won… and got the compensation also.

NEWS from rediff.com: ICICI Bank violated RBI norms: Pranab
ICICI Bank was twice issued letter of warning or advisory note in last two years for violating Reserve Bank of India [ Get Quote ] guidelines, Lok Sabha was informed on Friday.
In 2007-08, ICICI Bank [ Get Quote ] was accused for violating RBI guidelines relating to opening of deposit accounts, which led to fictitious accounts being opened by fraudsters at the bank’s Patna branch.
The bank was issued ‘Advisory Note’ in December 2007 and a Letter of Warning in April 2008 for its irregular dealings in securities in Hong Kong, Finance Minister Pranab Mukherjee [ Images ] said in a written reply.
Besides ICICI Bank, some other banks including Bank of Baroda [ Get Quote ], Dena Bank [ Get Quote ], HSBC Bank and Centurion Bank of Punjab [ Get Quote ] Ltd were issued letters of displeasure by the RBI for violating FEMA guidelines or with regard to opening of deposit accounts, the minister said.
In another written reply, he said RBI performs various functions which, inter-alia, include monetary management of the country, management of foreign exchange and domestic debt of the government, regulation and supervision of banks, financial institutions and non-banking finance companies.
These functions are derived from the provisions of various statutes such as the RBI Act, 1934, The Indian Coinage Act, 1906, The Banking Regulation Act, 1949 and others.

I am surprised with how many people mentioned about signature mismatch issue. So many times I had that painful experience and due to the same reason, I closed my current account. Definitly they are missing something in the way they check the signatures.
