ICICI Bank - A bad experience for many

April 27th, 2005 at 10:16pm

I had only verbally heard about the bad experiences people are having with ICICI Bank, but this just proves it!

Came across this page (do read it! - opens in a new window) via madman’s page.

I have a account with ICICI bank because its our salary account, and we are kind of forced to use ICICI Bank. And since we have a salary account, we get a decent service. But yes, the credit card department, and the call centre sucks big time. That’s my personal experience.

They put you on hold for 5 to 10 mins. (just imagine listening to the same junk music/tone/adverts continuously), and then there is no guarantee that you will get to speak to someone or your problem would be solved. Infact, today I was put on hold for around 7 mins, and after that the call as abruptly disconnected!. Next time I call the call center, I get to speak to a totally new person, and start from scrap describing the problem. The people at the call center just promise to do things, and nothing actually happens. If it happens, then you are really your luck.

Hope K V Kamath reads this!.

My advice to all - Avoid ICICI as far as possible. Many people predict that the bank would collapse in a few years from now. Have a account with any nationalized bank.

Personally, I have an account with SBI and keep a minimum amount in ICICI.

I agree with the fact that ICICI customer service SUCKS..
I am in US and have transferred 44000 using money2india into to my savings a/c with icici. When I checked my a/c in internet, I found that some body had withdrawn all the money from non-icici ATM. I have complained to icici customer care immediatlely. I had to call a 2nd time as the call was disrupted first time after talking to a customer service executive for 45 min. It took another one hour to log complaint again. They told it would take at least one week to enquire. My parents in India went to bank and reported.
Then checked the account and found that icici send a new ATM/Debit card to my address in India as my old card would expire after one month. I haven’t requested for the new card and moreover there was no communication that they have sent a new card to me. And it was handed over by courier people to somebody else. I was shocked to know that they would give the important stuff to somebody with out asking for any photo ID. Another shocking news is that they have already sent the PIN also 3-4 days before sending the card.
Anyway they started enqiring and found the people who had taken the card. But still they are not giving proper response regarding when they can refund my money back or even whether they give it back to me or not. It’s been 20 days after I transferred the money.
I heard that we can complain to RBI regarding these issues.
Can anyone let me know where can I complain to RBI, or is there any other option to complain about ICICI ? I got fed up with the response from icici staff.

    Thanks for any advice.

The worst bank as far as the customer service is concerened.

The employe are giving false promises at the time of application for the Housing loan and when the loan is sanctioned there are a lot hidden charges by them which are very difficult to belive.

Basically they are cheaters who have been given licence to cheat the customer in India by the Govt. There doesnot seems to be any governing body who is listening to the customer complaints in ICICI as well as in RBI.

Would suggest to opt for other banks instead of ICICI bank for any kind of loan.

HDFC Bank India is the worst managed bank i have ever seen!

hey people, please think twice before trying to get either any loan from HDFC Bank in India or even have any account with HDFC Bank India. by personal experience, they have the worst operations systems compared to even the smallest co-operative banks in the country. and if you want proof - i have plenty of proof as well as a set of subsequent apology letters from them!!!!

i have an overdraft account with them, and the conditions of the overdraft account are that minimum 3% of total overdrawn money on the 30/31 of the month has to be paid in before 10th of the next month. i normally utilise upto half of the overdraft limit and then deposit back almost all of utilized money by the 2/3 of the next month. But still their operations is so fucked up that they will mark you as a defaulter because you paid up 100% but you didnt pay 3% - can you imagine this screwup?!!!!

then their collections department will mark you for recovery and hand over your numbers to a contracted street-side ruffian agency, who will then start calling up and DEMAND (bhaigiri!!!!! dadagiri!!!!!) to PAY UP SAME DAY and then they will send people within an hour to your home/office.

this happened with me twice - once on december 2005 and again today 15/16 february 2006. i had the courage to walk up to their collections department situated on 3rd floor of Trade Star Building in Andheri East in Mumbai and gues what the collection department does? they will spend an hour looking into some computers and say that somebody has made a mistake somewhere, and that they are sorry for that and then they will issue a small 1 line apology letter.

you go home happily thinking the matter is over, but wait, thats just the beginning!!!!!!

the same story will be repeated every month or every alternate month!!!!!! NOW CAN YOU BELIEVE THAT?????

hey folks, this has been happening so regularly with me, that next time i am going to get the police and consumer courts involved. Also, you know what people incharge of collections will tell you? the so called senior officers of collections - namely Vijay, Santosh Kamat, Sachin Karmalkar - they coolly say that their collection deparment salaries are directly related to the amount of collections that they make each month, so they do this regularly for that extra buck!!!!!!!! and they also defy you to either go to the police or go to consumer ccourts - they say nobody can harm them!

and hey - if anybody out here wants any proof - i have some video recordings of my meetings with them! as well as the apology letters!!!

you are welcome to share your thoughts on this
