Yeah brilliantly written. I too have the same problem.

See its not very easy to switch over to ethernet modem because i bought this modem from airtel. If it was in rent they change it free of cost.

I got ubuntu 5.10 recently. I want to use it. But the thing that is stopping me is my USB modem "GlobeSpan Virata Tera 100u" which i got from airtel.

So someone could plz explain how to go about installing this in Ubuntu. This is the only thing preventin me from switchin over from windows xp completely.

Thx in advance!!

Don't you have a ethernet port, which is almost instantly detected, USB ADSL modems, may work but try to get the latest distro, since the USB detection and working was very poor and it has improved a lot now, so it may or maynot work.

You may also want to join the Mangalore chapter of Linux User groups and post your query in there, and it may be possible that someone in the group may have got it working.: http://groups.yahoo.com/group/ilug-mangalore/
