Finally Broadband

Its been quite sometime since I wrote (almost a month!!). The reason : As Usual : Work!.

After using shareaza I strongly felt the need for a broadband connection!, and I was just looking out for one.. and when I had it mind, the guy from touchtel calls me up and says that they have come out with a new scheme……….!( Yeeeeeeeeeeah!!)

Well, this sales chap from touchtel was after me for quite sometime (long long back, I had called them up for some info!), and I had told him to contact me only if he has a scheme which met my requirement!…

My Requirement : .. I Strongly believe that, broadband should not have any limits on amount of data that you download, and the time for which you are connected. In India, and specially, the place where I live in, where there is zero competition, .. this is like…. a dream! Even touchtel had no such package. They had either limit on the no of hours connected, or limit on the no of bytes (or MBs) that you download / month. Not at all a scheme for people like me :) who download the entire limit in one single session LOL :)

Finally, mid July, I go this call from the same chap, and I was told about this new scheme from Touchtel DSL -> also known as ZipNet !..

The scheme is something like this :

1. 128 Kbps ->decent!!………. although I would ideally like to have a T1 link.
2. Night form 10 PM to morning 8 AM free DSL access.
3. No limit on data transfer
4. 10 hrs day time browsing (Rs. 30 / hr there after)
5. Land line
6. 100 free voice calls on the land line
7. All for Rs. 700 + tax per month

#2 -> Ideally, I would like to have 24 hrs access, but.. this was pretty good, considering the fact that I am in office rest of the time., and get a T1 access :) - http …only :(
#3 -> the best part !! :) now I can download movies to apps to updates…name it!
#5 -> cool -> one phone in my bedroom! :)

The above scheme is called Win-Win 550 ……………..

I was promised that the connection would be done in 4 days, but it took a lot longer, around 10 days. due to the non availability of the cable (network) around my house. But the best part is, these touchtel people were really kind enough to go out of their way, and get me the connection!

(out of the way ??? yes… Its rainy season here in mangalore, and the corporation rules don’t allow anyone to dig during this season…. …. but touchtel managed to get the work done!! … Mera Bharat Mahan!……….)

I finally got the DSL access on the 17th of July I guess!………peace!……..
